1992 Schwinn CrissCross Hybrid  |  $435

Starting in 1990 Schwinn started building the CrissCross as a sport/hybrid bike. This is a beautifully restored example of one of these very versatile bikes. The CrissCross works well as a commuter, city bike, exercise road bike, and even as a light touring bike. The frame geometry gives it a very comfortable ride making for enjoyable rides on the bike path or country roads on a sunny summer day. The frame is double butted, True Temper chromoly steel. It’s a lugged frame and it even has the star point reinforcers on the water bottle bosses. It’s a cool little detail. There are also rack bosses on the seat stays to attach a rear rack. The fork is also chromoly. The drivetrain was reworked as a 1 x 7. There is a new FSA vero 165/42t single chainring up front. Shifting is easy and precise with a Shimano 7 speed trigger shifter and the Shimano Altus M310 7 speed indexed rear derailleur. The ALTUS has a 13 tooth top jockey wheel and a 15 tooth bottom wheel for smooth, precise shifting. This Papa Monkey restoration started by stripping the bike down to the frame. The frame was media blasted and professionally powder coated with a deep purple paint with fine metallic flakes in it. All of the components were meticulously cleaned and polished. The headset and both hubs were cleaned, and the steel bearings in each were inspected and replaced if needed. Upon reassembly they were regreased. The cockpit was rebuilt using a new flat handlebar, Tektro brake levers, a 100mm Ritchey stem, and a quill stem adapter. The seat was also replaced with a Charge Spoon leather look saddle and new Cardiff leather lock-on grips were added giving the bike a cool cafe racer look. All of the consumables were replaced. This includes new Vittoria Verano tires, tubes, cables and lined cable housing, brake pads, Meetlocks 3 bearing pedals, and a new chain. It’s only after this meticulous restoration that a bike can become a Monkey Machine! If you’re ready to ride a vintage steel steed, then ride with Papa Monkey. I’m asking $435 for the bike.
